With the current economic climate, we all know that starting up in business can be a difficult task. Imagine how hard this can be for those with debts who are unsure of where to turn. We also know how complicated the finances of many of our clients can be, mixing as they do between business and personal financial arrangements.
Being able to signpost clients struggling with debt issues, whether they are an existing business or just about to start up is an important role for our business advisers, directing people to the right advice before things spiral out of control.
Our Group Consumer Credit License for Quality Assured and BIS approved members provides cover for members giving support with credit brokerage, debt counselling and debt adjusting, but we have not previously supported this with any professional development opportunities.
That’s where our proposed debt Management programme comes in!
Designed to assist business advisers to develop their knowledge in this area, or to brush up where they might have some knowledge already. This one day course will help advisers identify clients in financial difficulty and signpost to the right reputable organisations that can help the client either keep their business or help the client start their business without the additional stress and worry of debt.
The course includes:
• Understanding the debt process
• Identifying clients in difficult situations
• Identifying priority and non-priority debts (business and personal)
• Creating an accurate financial statement
• Overview of options available
• Identifying next steps for client
• Signposting to a reputable organisation that can help the client
This course is aimed at business advisers working across the spectrum of enterprise and business support, but will have particular benefit for those working with NEA clients, ERDF clients and existing businesses.
A pilot of this course is being held in London on Wednesday 13th February 2013 at Grant Thornton’s offices in Euston from 10am until 3pm for a special rate of £54 (£45 + VAT) for National Enterprise Members.
