NEN Member, MENTA has announced plans for its 10th consecutive, annual, Business Show to be held on Tuesday 2nd October at The Apex, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
The MENTA Business Show attracts a diverse range of exhibitors representing long standing, established companies as well as innovative, creative start-ups. This year MENTA will be hosting more than 70 businesses who will showcase their goods and services inside The Apex as well outside the venue in Charter Square. The exhibition is free to visitors to attend and there are 400 goody bags to give away.
The Business Show has been supported for ten consecutive years by Atkins Thomson Solicitors, who are a MENTA Patron and sponsors of the event. Robert Dellow, partner at Atkins Thomson commented, “I’m looking forward to meeting with business owners, both exhibitors and visitors and celebrating all that is good about living and building a business in the eastern region.”
Alex Till, chief executive of MENTA said, “I am pleased to announce, Gerald Ratner will be our keynote speaker and will join us for a networking brunch with the audience afterwards.”
Gerald Ratner took over as CEO of the family jewellery chain in the mid 1980’s, becoming one of Britain’s best known businessmen. He transformed it from 130 stores with sales of £13m, to a public company with 2,500 stores and sales of over £1.2bn. By 1990, Ratner’s was the world’s largest jewellery retailer with profits in excess of £120m.
Following a widely reported gaffe in which he compared his products to M&S prawn sandwiches, Gerald was forced to sell the business.
After clawing his way back to the top, Gerald will talk with typical candour about the rollercoaster journey and the valuable lessons learned.
The MENTA Business Show will be open from 9am until 4.30pm and at 1pm broadcaster, Nick Pandolfi, will host ‘Talking Heads’. His business guests will include Jesse Quin, bass guitarist of rock band, Keane and founder of the innovative Old Jet – an inspiring working environment for professionals working in the creative industries. The building, at the ex U.S. Air Force base, Bentwaters, in Rendlesham is in an amazing location, surrounded by rusting fighter places, old aircraft hangers yet in the middle of beautiful Suffolk countryside.
They will be joined by Jason Carter of HOAX whose brand ambassador is Ed Sheeran, designer and illustrator, Brie Harrison and Peter Hampel of EdenLAB. They’ll discuss how to develop and build a successful brand.
Tickets to the MENTA Business Show are free, tickets are available to purchase for both Gerald Ratner and Talking Heads at www.menta.org.uk or directly with The Apex box office. The event is supported by Invest in Suffolk
