Popular business counsellor retires after two decades of supporting local enterprise

We’d like to wish the very best to Terry Gilbert, Business Counsellor at TeamNEM member, North Somerset Enterprise Agency (NSEA), as he begins his retirement after two decades of supporting local enterprise.

Terry is a popular and well-known business counsellor, responsible for helping thousands of local businesses start up and grow during a career spanning more than 19 years.

Terry’s love of ballooning was reflected in a special cake, presented by long-term NSEA colleague Hazel Wintle, to mark his retirement

Terry Gilbert, aged 73, has worked on behalf of North Somerset Enterprise Agency (NSEA) since 1998, providing advice, guidance, reassurance and support to business owners in the region and helping many turn an outline idea into a successful business venture. He was previously on its Board of Directors, taking his involvement in the organisation to well over 20 years.

During his career Terry, from Hutton in Weston-super-Mare, has been instrumental not only in the creation of many jobs and a healthy local economy but with colleague Hazel Wintle, has helped create and drive forward the North Somerset Business Club and organised a series of charity balls, raising tens of thousands for local charities.

He has also been involved in many other aspects of local life including being a past President of the Chamber of Commerce, with career highlights having included an invitation to Buckingham Palace in recognition of his work with The Prince’s Trust.

Terry’s departure from NSEA was marked recently with a lunch for some of his closest business colleagues and associates, a celebration cake depicting one of his passions – ballooning – and a watch as recognition of his outstanding service to the Enterprise Agency.

Congratulating Terry on his achievements, NSEA’s Chairman, Charles Walker, said: “Terry has long been a pillar of the business community here in North Somerset. He is truly a man of many talents and has been very helpful to thousands of people. On their behalf, and ours, we thank him for his dedication and hard work and wish him a long and happy retirement.”

Terry said: “I have enjoyed every second of my time with NSEA and have been proud to watch the growth and success of so many independent local businesses, including several whose owners are now millionaires!

“I have also been privileged to see NSEA go from strength to strength and in recent years build, and expand into, the wonderful Hive business development centre, of which I am a huge fan. I will look back fondly at the clients I have met from all walks of life and the many friends I have made during a very memorable and happy time in my life.”

Terry has no plans to slow down and is planning to enjoy his hobbies of ballooning and playing the organ – in-between completing jobs assigned to him by his wife, Mrs. Rose Gilbert!
